An Avenue of Lost Tales by JackJacko-Eponymous An Avenue of Lost Tales by JackJacko-Eponymous
I never put copyrights before but hell, I might just begin now before describing the piece.

Copyright belongs to Hasbro, the awesome team of MLP:FiM, the guys that made the Pioneer plaque (proudly telling evil aliens where to aim their cannons at since 1972) and, well, me I guess.

That said, here it is, the EqD December Draw-off submission aka An Avenue of Lost Tales (which is a pretty damn suggestive music piece - look it up - and a tribute to my friend ~KeinZantezuken).

There's a whole lot of stuff in this thing here, and I'd love to leave all the interpretations to you guys because hey, what's better than finding your own inspirations and little stories in art pieces?
Just to clarify the Pioneer plaque rip-off: being this an alternate Earth setting (there, you made me go and ruin your own interpretation like 15 words after declaring my good intentions) the Pioneer thingy applies as well. And while I'm well aware that on the original the pulsars are meant to triangulate earth's position, you can also calculate the time of the creation of the plaque from the pulsar periods indicated on the plaque itself. So in this case I meant it in a time sense and not in a space sense.

Apart from this... Have fun I guess =p

And if you turn your head sideways the Pioneer plaque kind of looks like Twilight's cutie mark.

And my favorite comment from Derpibooru:

"There was one word…older than the clans themselves

Our Home."

Wow, I can see a lot of fantastic stuff in here.

First, the sun and moon ruled together.

Then, up a layer, the moon was banished, and the sun ruled alone, leading Equestria in prosperity.

Then, up a layer, something happened to Celestia... And the moon ruled alone... Forming a grand treaty with the avatar of nature in their world?

And, up a layer... Who knows? They're amongst the stars, now...

I like how Nightmare Moon is over Luna, imprisoning Luna's true self.

One problem I have is along the top, I can see 5 of the mane 6 but no Twilight :p

And top line at the left, it looks like they reach industrialization, then a technically advanced era, but then the avatar of nature of their world is feeling weak and sickly; she has complaint against them (a la' modern environmentalism), and so they agree to reduce the load on her by taking their growth to the stars, thus the spaceships.

And here we have human explorers, from a distant world, discovering this ampitheatre of the long-gone civilization...

But is the civilization gone in time, or only in space?

Only another mission to the stars will reveal the answer...

Great to see that someone else is thinking about ancient history of ponies :>

What's more, I once draw a similar pictorial representation of ancient pony history. Maybe I should digitize it and put it somewhere online, too? ;)

My interpretation?

This is definitely a STARGATE! :>

This ancient ruin is located somewhere on Earth in the Human World, from very ancient times, where both worlds were once connected. But there was a great war between power-hungry Humans and noble Equines, which caused Ancient Alicorns to tear the spacetime and split these two worlds (I call this event The Great Divide in my personal head canon), for the safety of both races. This spell can be reversed only when Harmony will return to both worlds.

Now, after thousands of years, Human Race discovers these ruins back again.

The hieroglyphs and pictures are an instruction of how to activate the Stargate and open a portal to the Pony World.

See this slanted ramp leading apparently to nowhere? This is the place where the actual portal appears when activated, and the ramp is to facilitate passing through it.

There is a similar temple somewhere in Saddle Arabia, with a similar instruction of how to activate the other end of the portal. It needs to be done from both sides at the same time to work (which implies the Harmony must be present in both Worlds already).

Hey man, thanks for the appreciation! I have to say your interpretation is fascinating, and I like a lot the idea that the slab is actually the ramp of the closed stargate :3

Wow, interesting, just like in Egypt or in the Aztecs. :)

I haven't seen this sense the draw-off! I remember taking part of that, and seeing this along with a bunch of others. It's how I first meet with Calpain.

still a great work, and still love the concept of it.

The golden placard on the middle of the uppermost forth row.  Looks similar to the placard placed in the Voyagers & Pioneers spacecraft to define the position of our sun in our  galaxy using known pulsars as mark posts. and because of the images just to the left of the placard, they look like interstellar ships with the streaks... denoting stars passing by as these ship traverse across space? Hence why the placard to point out the location of the ponies home world. Ergo why it seems that they suffered some catalysm in their home world and were forced to abandon it looking for a new world.  And so the following images representing the quest and tribulation the ponies experience once they arrived to this new world.

Now the ponies are now gone, probably extinct.  And so humans, explores from the planet Earth and so also visiting this world, have stumbled on these ruins of the now long gone ponies...

That's my interpretation.

Thank you, I'm particularly fond of this one. It's not particularly beautiful, or well executed, but I had put a lot of thought in it. It's something I've sadly lost a bit over the time.
