Irreplaceable by JackJacko-Eponymous Irreplaceable by JackJacko-Eponymous
So, after a long long time, a new drawing.

The title has been bit of a hassle. I've been told that it sounds quite pretentious, and to be honest I would tend to agree, but it was the only one I could find that could convey both the uniqueness of Twilight's achievement AND the fundamental delusion behind it.

And that's because this is the conceptual sequel of Sunrise of a New Age:
[link]
I've also set this drawing in the same universe represented in Test Flying:
[link]
Plus, use this for reference on the writings:
[link]

So what can I say, enjoy the drawing and comment if you feel like it!
As always, I don't own any of the characters which are ©Hasbro and the intellectual property of the awesome MLP:FiM team.

EDIT:
Oki, I'm putting here the translations for all the text. Just hover on the corresponding text (it's a fake and improper use of link tooltips but eh, it was the only thing I came up with as an anti-spoiler)

Computer screen Just something silly ^^

Robot forehead Now figure this out! (Come on, it's easy =) )

Platform

Airship Only half of this text actually shows.

Letter

I've also made the preview a little bigger now. Remember that you can always look at the downloadable full res version anyway.

I look at this picture, and I see nothing but pure vision. I'm at a loss for words here. This really should be submitted to Equestria Daily if it hasn't been yet.

The breathtaking vista, coupled with the steampunk design, colouring and level of detail makes this one of my all time favourite drawings, I absolutely love the idea behind it and would give my soul to make it happen.

Should not it be other way around, I mean Celestia to have Twilight robot as replacement, after all it is Celestia who outlive those who she liked or even loved.

Wow. At first I was admiring your piece for the overall quality and style, and then the reality of the concept caught me right in the throat like a well-thrown brick. I mean, how many of us wouldn't give almost anything for another five minutes with that special teacher or mentor that saw something in us and took the time and effort to affirm their belief in us and our potential? I wish I could go and thank every great teacher I've ever had because of this.

Your title is perfect in every way. Thank you for making this.

I would love to walk into this workshop and see what all that could be accomplished. The picture is inviting both as a work of art and as the background to a story that has endless potential. I really like it.

It also reminds me of a quote I heard or read a while back: "If there were no God there would be a need to make him." Twilight seems to be taking this a bit on the literal side.

This is beautiful, as all your work is. There are a lot of pony pictures in the Internet, but most of them are simple drawings of one or two characters. Sometimes funny sometimes sad or cute. Your art is something entirely different. Both "Irreplaceable" and "An avenue of Lost Tales" not only filled me with a mix of many emotions, but also (given the fact that I am a DM for a MLP Pen and paper Roleplaying game) gave me tons of brilliant ideas for future campaigns that my players will experience sometime. Thank you not only for the art but also for the inspiration that comes with them.

Thanks to you for your kind words. What I really want to accomplish with many of my drawings is to inspire people into reading and imagining their own stories out of them...
Knowing that I did succeed, may it even be just with you, is heart-warming =)

In the RPG setting I'm playing the Princesses vanished and the world was left in disorder, the Mane Six went kind of mad... While most of the elements are easily inverted (Generosity - Greed) I didn't know what to do with Twilight, the opposite of Magic would be... Science, I guess? Twilight building a Celestia-bot as a substitute is just the thing I needed. Not only does it invert her element perfectly, but it also shows how desperate she is to see her beloved mentor again.

(btw. I tried to write in your alphabet lately, it's cool, but I had problems writing "Applejack" for there is no symbol for J and X seems absent too.)

Keep up the good work, I'm waiting for more "pictures that say a thousand words"

As for the alphabet, to uselessly complicate things up, I introduced some letters that represent phonetic symbols, and you generally have to approach it with some care. X is written as "ks" and the J in Applejack uses the symbol ʤ.

Now you've done it. My engineer character in a Fallout: Equestria RPG is definitely going to try and build a new robot body for Princess Celestia now, thanks to this.

This piece is brilliant. I love the fine details in the machinery, mechs, and console. The shadow work is tremendous, and the clouds are really fluffy-lookin'. I especially like the high-tech Steampunk feel you've given the whole piece (and Test Flying as well). The scene is mellow, it's calm, and you know it can only end in either awesomeness or tears.

If I were to try and help an incredible artist such as yourself, it would be with this tiny nitpick: the pneumatic tubes look a little 'pasted on' to the main image. They're in sharper focus than the rest of the piece. It might just be because they're foreground, but if the focus is Twilight and Celestia Mark II =P, is there a way to soften the edges of them there pipes?

Yeah, I could blur them or work some thingamagigs to make 'em less annoying. Actually I really don't know what went wrong since they are really not pasted there but were in the drawing from square one and coloured along all the rest. I think that maybe the brighter shading along the edges (which I used to give 'em a little depth) may be the one making them pop out like that. Plus, they are so blocky in contrast with all the curviness (is that even a word?) of the rest... Don't know what to say, sorry. This thing of putting horribly perspectively regular stuff in my drawings is something I find difficult to shake off. As they say, better luck next time ň_ň

Well, like I said, it was a minor nitpick at worst. I still think this is one of the best pieces of steampony art I've ever run across, and with all the things on EQD that fit that description, I'd take that as a compliment if I were you. =P

There's so much wonderful and excitingly stylish attribute to this Steampunk Equestrian scene that it's hard to know where to begin, or how much to say. It's one of the few times where I'm tempted to say, "Gorgeous work!" and then move on.

But I don't work that way.

The first thing that strikes me is the older, bespectacled Twilight Sparkle either admiring her handiwork or that it reminds her of her long lost mentor (from the linked comic); that makes the statue up at the top more poignant, and the fact that it's holding a Luna flag tells me that at least many ponies understand that the Princess of the Night was ordained before ... you know. The older Ms. Sparkle's outfit is a great piece of work too.

(Sure, there are always conspiracy theorists mixed with the half-joking types to unsettle things at times, but if you check most of the hardcore plotheads airship radios you'll find that all the presets are set to number stations. ;))

The observation deck cum library is quite wonderful, and I especially like that it's been kept spacious as possible yet still has enough equipment and the quirky scroll transport system running through. I guess that even if items don't end up there at least she can see when papers are being sent to the other parts of the ship. Roboponies are a cook idea, and the tools mounted on the outside frame up high must give ponies (and others) on passing ships pause, perhaps wonder. Better fix that steam pipe, Twilight, or it may fog up the windows and obstruct such a wonderful view. (And imagine trying to get older Rainbow Dash to wash them afterwards!) I love that window in the floor to view the gear work, and (despite reading the TITLE descriptions a while ago, but there was a reference I wasn't able to find any information on) think it must be quick-check for Robolestia's systems before her departures.

The "computer" system is cute, especially with the idea of a steam powered and probably combined pneumatic and gear run calculating system. I bet people could have hours of fun figuring out how to run a big lighted computer display off steam power and limited electricity.

Robot-Celesta is a great invention, making sure there's a pony who an give and protect long as it's properly maintained and fueled. That's the good thing about not having a soul, but if the programming is right and Twilight tries a little then it's easy to think of her teacher... but I'm scared of the inevitable disappointment if it really is nothing more than an automaton without the capacity for evolving. As for aesthetics, it reminds me a bit of the Sweetie Bot but with shapes and sharper curves that speak much more to power (and going with pure metal is a bit Terminator intimidating as opposed to a lifelike ponydroid).

Okay, that's enough for now unless you have particular areas you'd like me to study harder or, more likely, explanations of all the things I got wrong. Thanks for making and sharing such a fantastical and amazing scene with us.

As stated in an earlier comment here, there's something appealing about the idea of Celestiabot, assuming she's a sentient non-biological lifeform, being not only painfully self-conscious about being a robot, but daunted by the task of filling the void the original Celestia left in the hearts and minds of her people.

If you see stuff like that then post a comment on it yourself. I'm sure the artist would love to know that someone caught it (but they aren't notified of replies to others' comments).

BTW, I don't see it, but then again I'm not a super fan and definitely don't have the symbols memorized. The tiara did make me think of Twilight's though.
